Our Wedding

Our story started at work several years ago, though it took us a while to get the timing right. Things finally clicked at our Christmas party in December 2022, largely thanks to some surprisingly skillful dance moves from Chris. A first date in Knutsford followed and any thought of 'taking things slow' quickly went out the window. We soon realised we’d found the person we could be completely ourselves with. Our life together is built on laughing at our own jokes, the occasional scare prank, and navigating life's important questions—like what was that noise... Chris or the dog (Chris, always Chris!), is pizza 3 times a week excessive and whether one bottle of prosecco is ever enough. Chris decided to make it official in May 2025. His romantic plan involved a 36-degree day in Mexico and a beach walk that felt like a marathon. Despite the heat, he got down on one knee and the answer was an immediate and easy "yes!". We are so grateful for the journey that brought us here and we're so excited to be celebrating our marriage with the people who mean the most to us.

We'll be staying here, at the wedding venue from 7th - 10th July. It's such a beautiful, rustic, Italian farmhouse converted into a hotel. It has stunning panoramic views of the city and is approx. €20 away from Verona city centre by taxi. If you'd like to stay here too then please email your enquiry to info@sanmattia.it and they will arrange an exclusive deal and ensure a note to your booking is added, so they know you're with our party

Alternatively, there are so many hotels and AirBnB's in the area that would also be ideal, as the venue is so close to the city.

Verona airport is the closest. There are quite a few different flight operators that operate out of Manchester directly to Verona. There's Ryanair, Easyjet, Jet2 and TUI who fly this route on alternate days. We'll be flying out on Monday 6th and returning Friday 10th with Ryanair. If you're planning to travel on the same dates then let us know, as we'll be organising a transfer to and from the venue, so we can add you to this too :)

Getting Around

There a lots of ways to get around the area.There are several car rental options. Taxis are the best method if you're not planning on hiring a car (it's really not needed). Taxis are cheaper compared to Ubers, as Verona only operate with Uber Black. We've found that all taxis take card but most drivers prefer cash, so it's best to take a little with you. Corte San Mattia is around 10 minutes from Verona city centre and 20 minutes from the airport.

If you’re spending a little extra time here, we’ve pulled together some ideas to help you make the most of your trip. 🌟 Must-See Sights Arena di Verona – An ancient Roman amphitheatre (even older than the Colosseum!) that still hosts concerts and opera. Well worth a visit. Piazza delle Erbe – A lively square with colourful markets, cafés, and gorgeous architecture. Perfect for an Aperol spritz stop. Juliet’s House – Yes, it’s touristy, but the balcony is iconic. The surrounding streets are charming and worth a wander. Castelvecchio &amp; Ponte Scaligero – A medieval castle and bridge with stunning views over the Adige River. Piazzale Castel San Pietro – Take the funicular (or hike, if you’re brave!) for the best panoramic view of Verona. 🍝 Food &amp; Drink to Try Aperitivo in Piazza delle Erbe – Early evening spritzes with little nibbles — a very Italian tradition. Risotto all’Amarone – A local speciality made with Verona’s famous red wine. Gelato – A must! We recommend Gelateria La Romana. Valpolicella Wines – The region is famous for Amarone and Ripasso — perfect for a vineyard visit or just a glass in town. 🌿 Easy Day Trips If you have more time to explore: Lake Garda – Just 30–40 minutes away. Sirmione, Bardolino, or Lazise make for a gorgeous lakeside day out. Our absolute favourite place to go! Venice – Only about an hour by train if you fancy ticking it off your list. Valpolicella Wine Region – Book a wine tour and enjoy beautiful countryside and incredible reds.
